The Prince Rupert Bear
I would like you to meet The Prince Rupert Bear 2009
He has been made for The Wilhelmshaven Association - Prince Rupert School 1947-1972
Last year I was approached by The Wilhelmshaven Association and asked if I would like to produce a bear for their forthcoming major reunion in 2009 at Cardiff.
Once the initial pleasure of being asked subsided, the very hard task of choosing mohair began.
A team of three were assembled, myself, my mum (Joan Kitching nee Thurston) and Marguerite Garford (nee Ireson). Well it was more an excuse to coffee and cake it, over lots and lots of gorgeous samples.
Finally with mohair chosen, the real work started.
Helen Moore (nee Coulson) was eagerly waiting in the wings to clothe this dear bear and what a lovely job she did.
The big day came and was a great success, to my lovely surprise, a separate auction took place for the bear and a nice amount of money was raised for The Association.
After numerous enquiries, we have decide to offer The Prince Rupert Bear to its members as a limited edition. Each bear will come with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Due to the time taken, Helen is unable to repeat the excellent clothing,
but Rupert will arrive with a navy beret and a matching striped scarf.
Now for a little about Rupert, he stands approximately 12 inches tall.
He is completely designed and hand made by myself.
He is made from the finest German mohair in a honeyed brown colour.
He is fully jointed with black German glass eyes and
a hand embroidered nose.
His adoption fee is £50 plus p&p
